CrimeMaps is a full-featured web-based mapping application originally developed for the Los Angeles Police Department that combines the best-of-breed user interface with state of the art online mapping technology.  
 
The end result allows users to view crime in a clear geographic context. The power of this visual (i.e. crime points plotted on a dynamic map, with crucial information accessible for each plotted point) allows users to identify crime patterns and relationships that might otherwise not discernable to them. Crime maps show the public first hand what is happening in their area, encouraging community members to get involved and make their environment safer.

InfoShare is a community outreach email and list management web based program that enables Police Officers to email newsletters, crime trends and safety information to community members based on where they live or operate business.
 
The application is specially designed to group subscribers by address and zip code so they can be mailed relevant local crime information. With InfoShare, local officers can communicate directly with subscribers who live in the areas they patrol. InfoShare is not only an effective communication tool, but it allows officers to communicate efficiently with one email blast what was often previously a flurry of phone calls. Officers can embed suspect images and other visual references to crimes in the outgoing emails, further empowering the public to help solve crimes.  
 

how it works

step 1. Community Members subscribe to e-policing via the internet at a designated URL

step 2. Upon submission the e-police tool will surmise based on the subscribers’ street address the mailing group that is managed by a local officer.

step 3. Each area will receive a growing list of sign-ups that fall within their boundary, and officers can target communication to whose individuals based on local concerns.
